Job Description

Job Summary  As the Buyer, you will be responsible for purchasing the highest quality merchandise at the best possible price and in the correct amounts while ensuring proper timing and quality for the organization. Essential Duties  
  • Accurately create, monitor, review and process purchase order requisitions, purchase orders, and requests for quotations.
  • Purchase materials, equipment, supplies in accordance with prescribed purchasing procedures keeping with required timing, existing open contracts, and/or competitive bidding. 
  • Avoidance of the purchasing of materials already in stock, and continuance of efficiency within the department.
  • Identify vendor to procure requisitioned commodities, that meets the criteria on price, quality, quantity, and delivery date.
  • Track and assess current supply base on an on-going basis and recommend changes or alternatives that could reduce purchased material cost or add higher value to purchased component.
  • Communicating with all levels of management, supervisors, peers, and subordinates; providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person to provide updates, gather information or make recommendations. 
  • Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintaining them over time
  • Initiate negotiation renegotiation, and administer contracts with vendors, and other representatives.
  • Identify quality enhancements and cost savings opportunities; participate in continuous improvement activities that may include developing programs to improve supplier performance.
  • Maintain proactive communication with the Accounting Department to ensure accuracy of terms and payment to the supply base.
  • Communicate with internal Scheduling, Shipping & Receiving and Inventory departments regularly to ensure accuracy of required timing, accurate receipt and/or return of purchased material. 
  • Create and maintain strong relationships with the supply base ensuring the highest quality material at the best possible cost with timely delivery.  
  • Assist the Purchasing team in all facets of the procurement cycle as necessary to achieve business and departmental goals.  
  • Ensure work is performed in a safe manner using all available safety equipment.
  • All other related duties as assigned.
  • Possess mental faculties consistent with performing the minimum requirements of the job.

 Job Skills & Knowledge  
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management or related field; a related Associate’s Degree with minimum of 3 years relevant purchasing experience in a manufacturing or automotive environment, equivalent work experience also acceptable in lieu of education.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in pricing negotiation and supplier quality management.
  • Ability to learn ERP systems.
  • Proven ability to effectively handle a multitude of projects successfully.
  • Excellent time-management skills. 
  • Solid business and financial acumen.
  • Demonstrated experience being highly motivated and self-directed.
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines for complex projects.
  • Ability to work well in a Team environment.
  • Hands-on problem solving and continuous improvement support.
  • Strong Customer orientation.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong independent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.

 Physical Requirements  
  • Ability to speak verbally and read in English.
  • Ability to see with corrective lenses.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, crouch, reach, hand-eye coordination, and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to use a computer.
