JOB PURPOSE Plan, organize and arrange shipments, with particular attention to bulk fertilizer; monitor carrier services to obtain best combination of service and cost for client and its distributors. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Regular & consistent attendance. 2. Facilitate fertilizer shipments to customers by careful planning making appropriate arrangements with manufacturing sites and carriers, consolidating orders when necessary to meet shipping requirements. 3. Coordinate truckloads by consolidating customer orders to achieve the most cost-effective shipping charges. 4. Respond to heavy customer contact on the telephone, email, and in person by using appropriate customer service skills, responding to customer needs within limits of authority and knowledge. 5. Facilitate the implementation of fertilizer program by working closely with the marketing department. 6. Act as back-up to the Agronomics Department by providing information to end users pertaining to product applications and usage. 7. Resolve shipped quantity discrepancies by appropriately adjusting and rebilling customers. 8. Verify accuracy of sales fees, service fees, and rebates prior to Finance Department issuing payments to distributors by maintaining and applying current detailed information of the Fertilizer Program and ordering/shipping deadlines. 9. Act as back-up to the Transportation Supervisor by preparing required documentation and scheduling dry freight shipments to and from Distribution Centers, pick-up points, distributors and vendors by contacting approved carriers, giving appropriate information and setting pick-up time. 10. Facilitate pricing for the Freight Equalization Program by calculating liquid bulk freight rates. 11. Recover money from carriers for lost and damaged products by processing freight claims. 12. Create reports. e.g., claims and pick-up point volumes for Transportation Supervisor by entering data into spreadsheet format. OTHER FUNCTIONS 1. May be required to perform other work-related duties as assigned SUPERVISON AND SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES No supervisory responsibilities. Under minimal supervision. Coordinate Fertilizer shipments with a sales value of $5M. Responsible for freight claims and expenses. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS 1. 2 years of College, Trade School or Business School, or equivalent in transportation, logistics and/or traffic experience. 2. Desire 2 + years experience with bulk liquid carriers, plus knowledge of carrier tariffs, rates and contracts. 3. Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills 4. Must be able to operate a personal computer, mainframe, calculator, typewriter and fax machine. MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Maintain calm under pressure, particularly stressful during busy season – spring and fall (longer than normal hours possible during this time). Heavy level of customer service. Must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of contacts; heavy emphasis on telephone work.
