Job Description

Roll-Up / Wrapper Operator — Job DescriptionJob Title: Roll-Up Wrapper Operator (or Wrapper / Roll Wrapper Operator)
Department: Packaging / Shipping / Finishing
Reports To: Packaging Lead / Production Supervisor SummaryOperate and maintain wrapping machinery that secures rolls (carpet, foam, turf padding, etc.) with stretch or shrink film, ensuring proper protection for shipping. Monitor wrapper performance, troubleshoot issues, perform changeovers, and maintain wrapper area quality. Support production throughput with minimal downtime. Key Responsibilities

Set up wrapper machines (orbital stretch, roll wrap, shrink wrap, or ring wrappers) per product specs (roll diameter, width, film type).
Load film rolls, position cores, tension brakes, splice film when needed.
Monitor the wrapping process: check for film breaks, miswraps, sagging, under/overlap, and adjust machine settings.
Inspect wrapped rolls for defects (loose film, tears, punctures) and rewrap or reject as needed.
Change wrapper parameters for different roll sizes, weights, or film types — adjust speed, film feed, wrap count, etc.
Maintain area housekeeping, remove scrap film, and ensure safety protocols are followed (lockout/tagout, guards, etc.).
Escalate mechanical or electrical issues to maintenance staff.

Qualifications & Skills

Experience with wrapping / packaging / machine operation preferred.
Mechanical aptitude — comfortable working with drive systems, rollers, sensors, belts.
Attention to detail to ensure wrap integrity and defect avoidance.
Ability to lift and maneuver rolls (within company limits).
Ability to stand, bend, reach, walk for shift duration.
Basic reading/interpretation of job tickets, specs, diagrams.
Communication skills to coordinate with production, maintenance, QC.
Basic troubleshooting skills for wrapper faults, film feeding issues, sensor misalignment.
